One of my favourite things to do is walk around graveyards, especially old ones. No matter if Christian, Jewish or whatever, I think it’s so interesting how graves were designed and the stories behind both the people and the graveyard as a whole. And it always has a rather calming effect on me, because usually there are a lot less people walking around compared to parks. However at least the graveyard near me is almost a park – it hasn’t been used as a graveyard in decades, they take care of the flowers and placed a couple of benches all over the area.

Of course, it also makes my Wednesday Addams heart rejoice to visit graveyards. In general her dark fashion inspires me a lot at the moment, I’m not sure I’d wear black everyday, but I adore her appearance. But, to be honest, I also consider her character rather inspiring. She does her thing and follows her way through life. The way the whole family is okay with being weird, different, can mean a lot to people who don’t always fit in – life would be a lot easier if more families were like the Addams. Especially the loving relationship of Gomez and Morticia really shows how being true to oneself can make life a whole lot better – after all none of their kids have any personal issues either.

I really want to cosplay Wednesday one day, her appearance is very iconic and I would wear her dress in reallife. Nevertheless I think this dress would be approved as well, it has some Edwardian influences (at least I tried to convey them) – and of course it’s all black. Sure, my almost paper white skin (and those black circles that look like I crept out of a grave) adds to that Edwardian not-so-sorry widow effect. Which of course closes the circle to the Addams family graveyard. I guess I will watch one of the movies tonight.

Finally, finally! I managed to shoot this outfit and post the photos. I planned this for the last few months, but wanted to wait for my Falcon tattoo. But the day has come and yesterday my friend Thyra and I went to take a couple of photos. This summer is very lovely so far – some days are a bit to hot/humid for my taste, but in general it’s a feeling of comfortable warmth. I can still rock my saddle shoes and petticoat, but a 60s babydoll is fine as well, so I’m quite happy.

To be honest I’m also quite happy with this Millennium Falcon dream outfit. After all everything ties together in a neat Star Wars theme – the shoes were a gift from my mum and I love them to pieces. It was the first time wearing them and the rub my feet a bit on the sides, but I think a pair of socks might help. I mean, what’s cuter than R2D2 heels? I get so many comments from people in real life telling me they really like them, and of course the shoes themselves are too beautiful. I feel like I should really wear all my fancy IC heels more often, because they fill me with joy.

The Millennium Falcon is one of my favourite space ships, I just love the flat design (I know it’s inspired by the one in the Valerian comics, but oh well). So of course this print is one of my favourites, I think it’s adorable especially with the black background, so I was beyond happy to find the matching earrings and of course my little tattoo addition makes me very happy too (even though it’s obviously still healing). My Leia brooch is another favourite not only becausse of the unique design, but also because there is a little quote on the backside.

Then again, Star Wars always makes me happy, because it has this easy going, fun vibe and the music alone gives me this warm fuzzy feeling. Thinking of – I still have to listen to the You Must Remember This Podcast about Star Wars (though it’s more of a play on words and about Old Hollywood) and I have to continue Ian Doescher’s Shakespeare’s Star Wars plays, because they are fantastic. The good – and bad thing (because ther is just so much) – about big fandoms like Star Wars is that is so much creativity and stuff surrounding it – from official/licensed merchandise to craziy creative from independent artists (like the brooch). Though it is always inspiring to see all the creative minds taking their spin on this big universe. There is also more than one inspiring woman – not only onscreen, but also people like Ashley Eckstein from Her Universe. So with this outfit I felt quite happy and inspired and I hope you get some of that though the screen.

Handmade Update June 2017

This month was me catching up on all the sewing I missed over the last two months. So, there was some time when I created a lot of stuff out of fabric I got at my grandparents, so here we go.

Wednesday Watercolour Painting
Wednesday Postcard
5th of June
Well, first I decided to paint Wednesday of watercolours and to be honest I really like the red background – that idea worked out well.

Star Wars Skirt
etsy Star Wars Skirt
9th, 10th of June
For my etsy store I made a Star Wars Skirt and there is still some fabric left, so you might want to head over there.

Lace Border Dress
Dress with Lace Border
10th of June
This project is based on a ModCloth dress, I adored for quite some time. It’s actually apricot, but I wanted something a bit witchy and that dark lavender tone is more than perfect. Also I love the lace details and I think it matches the tone very well. It’s pretty long compared to my 50s style wardrobe, so I am pretty excited to wear it for the first time.

Bat Sleeve Dress
Bat Wing 60s Dress
11th of June
Inspired my among other things this I wanted a bat wing dress – I wanted something sixties, somwthing that would actually require a beehive and Twiggy Makeup. There is a little issue with the lining showing on the right side, but I will figure this out.

Carot Crop Top
Carot Crop/Bra Top
11th of June
You know I got a couple of fabrics in Augsburg and now I decided to make some crop tops. This fabric is so adorable and I saw this pattern online, so I created my own based on the photograph on the front.

Governess Dress
Chiffon Edwardian/Victorian inspired Dress
12th of June
Recently I fell in love with Edwardian and Victorian dresses and really like those gothic vibes (gothic as in 19th century horror stories and the aesthetic, not pop culture goth). I think it looks a bit like somthing a governess would wear. It is inspired by this, however longer and without the collar (because I did not enjoy the way the collar looked and think this looks a bit older that way).

Wine Two Piece
Wine Red Two Piece (Cape/Skirt)
13th of June
Another one inspired by etsy is this two pice – I immediately fell in love with the idea of wearing a skirt as a cape when it gets colder. As with the first dress I wanted something darker, so I went for the wine tone. (Also it makes me feel a bit like Jayne Mansfield.)

Kitsch Kitten Crop Top
Kitty Kitsch Crop Top
14th of June
This is probably my favourite crop top I made this month – the print is so kitchy and I think the sweetheart neckline is perfect for the print. It’s also great because I don’t have to wear a bra with it.

Sheep Crop Top
Sheep Crop/Bra Top
14th of June
I’m so glad I decided to made tops now, because with not really shopping for clothing anymore and also not having too many tops this is an easy way to stock my closet. I definitively have to work on my blouse making, so that is another project for the rest of 2017.

20s Day Dress Slip Dress
20s Slip Dress
15th of June
With my current love for the 19th century to the 20s also made me create this dress (it’s based on a white slip dress I saw browsing on etsy, but I lost the link) – I wanted a soft, light (in weight and colour) cotton and this one has the perfect feel to it and I just love a beautiful insect print. I think it’s perfect for a 20s day dress

Sailor Skirt Red Mum
Mum’s Red Sailor Skirt
28th, 29th of June
My mum recently bought fabric for table runners, pillows and placemats and since she really liked it she asked me for a riviera style skirt which could be tied, so I made one. I really like the style and consider making more skirts with ribbons to tie.

Thyra Dresses
I also gave to of my old dresses to my friend Thyra and she looks adorable in them.

So this is what I made this month. What have you made this week?

The Red Beret

Okay, so you’re probably going, “Is this like a Noxzema commercial or what?” But seriously, I actually have a way normal life for a teenage girl.
Sorry, but this Clueless quote was so present on my mind, I had to type it. I think that is actually something Cher would wear to, it’s probably too subdued, but I think those french vibes would appeal to her. One of my favourite thing about this movie is how feminist, empowered and autonomous it is. It tackled quite a few important issues for a teen movie, like girl friendships and girl hate. By no means is the romance the most important thing.

Personally I like humankind in general and some humans inparticular, but I do not really like human contact – I realised that a lot in the last weeks. I mean, it’s not like I despise meeting friends, but I do think human interaction is exhausting, even though I think movie nights, cinemas and events like conventions are amazing. I think for me it’s a 20/80 rule – 20% human contact, 80% being alone (that includes going for a walk, café, shops though technically I do meet people outside). I feel like with this outfit that exploits every French chlicheé I should sit in a Parisian café reading poetry by Sappho or Ovid. Which – while I have never been to Paris or France in general – seems like something I want to do with my life. I guess we have to wait and see.

France by the way is one of the few countries in the west of Europe I haven’t seen (the others being Spain, Luxemburg and Belgium) and I really hope to visit them one day. However this summer seems to be more focused on the east (after visiting the North in April), as I hope to see Poland and Hungary in the summer months. Personally I have to say that I really consider the countries in the east most interesting – and Prague has to be one of the most beautiful cities I have ever visited. I think it’s great that we have the possibility to easily visit the other European countries nowadays and I’m really hoping to see most of them sooner or later.

oops, I did it again | Bride of Frankenstein Hair

Bride of Frankenstein Hair
Okay, yes I admit it, I said blonde would stay for a longer time and at least it did not change for something “crazy” like yellow, orange or the colour of a sunrise. But I could not keep my fingers off hair dye – I was even considering black, to be honest. But I was a bit too scared. However it is likely I’ll dye the mop black in a few weeks or months. At this moment I feel like keeping this exact do – the 20s bob anyway, because it’s my favourite cut ever.

Bride of Frankenstein Hair
Bride of Frankenstein Hair

Well, anyway back to the topic of colour. I wanted some Bride of Frankenstein Vibes (not only because Frankenstein is my favourite book), so I went for a dark brown with a strand of hair that I kept blonde (I have to get the roots touched up on the blond hair…). I know technicaly she has one strand on each side of her head, but I didn’t want that (also her hairdo is quite different). Therefore this is what I wanted and how it turned out. As you see it turned out a bit too light for me at first – I really liked the colour but it wasn’t what I wanted – so I had one week with a green-ish teddy brown and then went full on dark.

Bride of Frankenstein Hair
Bride of Frankenstein Hair

I am afraid I might hate myself in a couple of months for going dark again, but at the moment and for the last couple of months I did not feel at all like colourful hair. I have to mention, though, that I have been looking at pictures of my dark brown hair (which I had about two years ago) for months and I adored it – and I do now, so I am excited to see how I style it. I did actually wear a few easy hairdos in the last few days and think the white strand adds a lot. I also feel like wearing more gothic stuff (not neccessarily goth, but some 19th century gothic vibes), black really grew to me.

What is you hair colour at the moment? And what colour do you want next?

Vendula Circus Coin Purses

Vendula London Circus Coin Purse Circus Ticket Fortune Teller
Recently I have been contacted by Vendula again and got to choose something of their website to show you. I really love their products and am quite happy with the quality. So, I decided to go for two Coin Purses from the Circus Collection.

Vendula Circus Clip Fastening Fortune Teller Coin Purse
Vendula Circus Clip Fastening Fortune Teller Coin Purse
Personally I do not use regular wallets anymore since my last one (a Vendula one matching my Boutique Bag) has been stolen/lost in Venice. So for about a year I had a small handmade clip fastening coin purse that had a lovely 20s charme, however you know how it is – every once in a while you want to change things up, so the Vendula Circus Clip Fastening Fortune Teller Coin Purse was a great choice for me. The material is quite sturdy and the fastening with those adorable flowers is very secure (after all you don’t want to pick the coins from the bottom of your purse). It is big enough for all the currencies I tested and additionally you can carry your cards with you. Of course you should not put twenty cards inside, but you can easily fit in at least five. I’m also pretty sure it’s big enough for a compact mirror.
Vendula Circus Clip Fastening Fortune Teller Coin Purse

Besides the rather big size for a coin purse it’s main feature is obviously the stunning design. The details are handsewn and I cannot get over the glitter crystal ball and the little gold stars. Even the lining matches the Circus theme, it’s red and white stripes and I think it’s a lovely finshing touch.

Vendula Circus Ticket Zipped Coin Purse
Vendula Circus Ticket Zipped Coin Purse
Vendula Circus Ticket Zipped Coin Purse
The other one is the Vendula Circus Ticket Zipped Coin Purse, it’s 15*10 cm and almost like a clutch. Well, I will definitely use it as such. The soze is big enough for my mobile, so it’s perfect if you just want to have the bare necessities on you. It has extra compartments for three cards and a keychain to fasten it to your bag or to fasten your keys to the purse. Like all of their bags it’s made from high quality faux leather that feels great.
Vendula Circus Ticket Zipped Coin Purse
Vendula Circus Ticket Zipped Coin Purse
I think the design has such a Vintage Charme and even though I do not really approve of the circus itself due to the treatment of the animals, I like the design aspect and artistry of circuses and performers. And I think this bag perfectly captures this carnival vibe with every little detail.

Both of them would have been less than 25 Pound each which is a very acceptable price for a high quality purse with this kind of detailing in my opinion. Shipping has always been very easy and fast for me as a costumer.

Vendula Bags Circus Boutique
So far I never had any issues with any of the details of my bags being damaged, therefore I really recommend having a look at the stunning designs. The only thing that happened to me is the railing on the faux leather chipped of at two of my bag’s handles over time, however I could fix that with some glue.
The ones above are my bags I collected over the last few years and you can find out more about them here:
Vendula Chocolatiers Grab Bag
Vendula Snowflake Barrel Bag (this one has been sent to me as well)
Vendula Boutique Box Bag
Vendula Sewing Shop Pouch/Wash Bag (the one I use most of the time currently)
Vendula Sewing Shop Mini Purse
Vendula London Bags
The black purses and the Black Bag are my mum’s – you see we are quite taken with these wonderful designs.

Vendula London kindly send me the two Circus Coin Purses in exchange for a review. All opinions are my own.

While I was considering naming this post Sugar, we’re going down swinging for the sole reason that I currently listen to old Fall Out Boy albums – and who could blame me? They are amazing -, I thought this fit a lot better. Yesterday I went to Kochel (will posta a few photos of the town and my walk later), because sometimes I just want to get out and wander. You know, I miss Holmenkollen a lot (will blog about that, too), because it was perfect for wandering around. The air was chilly and it was very calming to me.

Then again, I think wandering alone always helps me to sort my thoughts and makes me feel a lot better. If something is up, going out into nature helps me, focus on what is important and go through all the aspects. Living in a city, I usually have to take the train (there are parks, but I also love to take the train and really get out in that way too) to get somewhere to wander about. I love staying home, reading and watching tv shows, but these trips also feel very special as well.

Since I live in Bavaria there are tons of lakes and mountains around and since I am getting into hiking and all this stuff, I really want to visit a few more of the mountains – well, I went to lot of them as a kid, but I want to visit them once more. Obviously this dress is the perfect dress to hike/wander – while I’d usually prefer a pair of pants, this dress truly is quite nice. Also, I think it looks a lot like a dress young girls back in the day would have worn to stroll through the woods/mountains. It’s no Sissi dress, but close enough to what I feel like might be a 40s wanderer dress. And it made me enjoy my “hike” even more, especially since back home a woman told me I’d look unearthly beautiful, which caught me really of guard and was so cute of her.

Today I have a couple of lovely Instagram ladies for you. They all have fantastic feeds and I’d highly recommend having a look. Of course, I’d also enjoy reading about your favourites! I started following all of them in the last couple weeks, so this list doesn’t include my all time favourites.

Anyone else out there who constantly has to remind themselves it's okay to be feminine — when the world constantly tries to make you believe otherwise? I am wearing a vintage panama hat and 1970s vintage Neiman Marcus safari ensemble from @sultryvintage (who aptly described it as "Annie Hall meets Indiana Jones"). This period of work in Egypt has produced some exciting results—more information, and a few short videos to come. As a modest preliminary celebration we visited Aswan on the weekend, and I took the opportunity to wear some vintage items around the famous and fabulous Cataract Hotel in Aswan (@sofitellegendoldcataract). The hotel was constructed 1899, and has been host both to Agatha Christie (for whom one of the suites is now named), as well as to the 1978 filming of her "Death on the Nile," with the garden façade serving for one hotel, and the imposing Nile front representing itself. In these shots (on the north side of the front, on the front terrace, and on the balcony of one of the rooms), I am wearing a late 1920s sheer peach chiffon dress with matching crop jacket and floral detailing (from @astralboutique). In the third photograph, in the background, is the southern tip of the island of Elephantine, site of a major First Dynasty fortification (ca. 3000 BCE), and continuous stratigraphy of human activity through the Graeco-Roman Period … more to come. #egyptologist #vintagehotel #truevintage #1920s #1920sdress #flapperdress #sofitellegendoldcataract #agathachristie #bobbedhair #egypt #Nile #aswan #elephantine #vintagetravel #oldcataract #1920sfashion #truevintageootd

Can I just say this dress feels like a mix of a cupcake and a prom dress? It’s very much the embodiement of prom dress dreams. Well, I never had such dreams, because where I live neither prom nor homecoming is a thing and we don’t celebrate any balls – besides one after graduating our version of high school. And that is more like sitting around, waiting for the report you already saw a couple o’ days before and then some drinking and dancing. It doesn’t feel like something John Hughes would include in a movie. This dress however, Iona might have worn it (and Andie would have destroyed it to create a prom dress).

In the last couple of weeks I have been a lot into pastels, while mainly listening to Fall Out Boy (by the way, I actually like the new song, I think it’s very intense and will be very interesting live). Which kind of clashes, but I don’t mind, it amuses me in a way – looking like a fairy, but having some emo and alternative tunes playing. 27 and Thnks fr th Mmrs are constantly stuck in my head and especially with the first I can quote it almost completly, the sad thing is I want to use a lot of the lyrics in daily life, but, you know, translated no one gets the reference (and, of course, I also have one friend actually listening to the band as well).

Recently my mood has been pretty much a rollercoaster, I have had a lot of ups and downs for no particular reason and on no-so-good days, it always feels a bit weird to look at those happy Tinkerbell meets Goldilocks photos I took just a day or two ago. Additionally I have been dealing with a cold for about two or three weeks and that does not really make me feel any better. I am happy about the spring sun and flowers however, even though I do not always feel like leaving the house (being heavy on introversion and feeling ill is not the best combination). Especially with feeling unwell/ill I feel like I’m even more sensitive than usual, not only emotionally, but very intensely when it comes to visual impressions.

It’s hard to talk about feeling unhappy when you do not even know th reason for it yourself. And when it all might be forgotten the next day. I’m thinking it’s someting to do with hormones or neurotransmitters.
Besides that I also stumbled across and old (and unfortunately no longer active) blog of mine, the girl never gets older and felt like listening to some classic rock again and fell down the rabbit hole towards the 40s-60s as well. Also, funnily enough writing this I want to dress like a teddy girl, you know like in those Ken Russell photos. There is this photo, I have both a crush on this girl and want to lok like her. Maybe I’ll try a bit more teddy girl – but then again, I also want some french lady vibes, a bit of rock’n’roll and never forget the pastel fairy side.

It is indeed May the Fourth again.
On of my favourite things about Star Wars are the droids. And how could they not? They are literally non-human companions/best friends. There is not much I’d be more happy about if scientist would develope than droids like in Star Wars. The thing is they have such unique personalities that get along without proper words (unless you consider Beep Boop Beep Boop words). Personally I consider BB-8 too be very cheeky, coy and sarcastic, after all BB and R2 are practically best buddies – well Threepio and Artoo are forever best friends, we all know that, but I still think BB-8 and R2-D2 have a special connection as well.

The difficult thing for me is posing for a BB-8 cosplay after all I am not a droid, so my posing is a more human – even though I am no stranger to awkward robotic movements, they don’t qualify as droid movements. Also, did you know BB-8 was suposedly a girl in early drafts (as far as you can put a gender on droids)? I kind of think that fits quite well and for me, BB-8 is a she – however I considered Boba Fett to be female as well for quite some time and doesn’t that make sense? Also, there are a lot of amazing fem!Boba Fett Cosplays, so they add to that idea.

Anyway, I could never pick a favourite droid, they all have their qualities and I’d just like having my own companion strolling along beside me. We would be very good at stamping on Darth Vader or returning to Jakku (Why does everyone want to go back to Jakku?! you knowww). Though I really have to say I prefer the stamping on Vader part, because I never was a big fan of Anakin (except the scenes when Anakin is a kid). Sure, he has my sympathies, but then again I like almost every Star Wars character, because all of them are so elaborate and even though it’s a system of good/evil, most are much rather somewhere on a scale of grey.
