Comic Con Munich Memories

Comic Con Munich Memories Doctor Who

Ohh, conventions, one of the most amazing things there is. This one was the first one in Munich, so it was pretty exciting to have one just a couple of minutes from home – it was hot however so even the short time in the metro was horrible. Well, the Convention was not horrible – it was so much fun, people were super nice and the guests were too. The thing was at the same weekend MCM Con in London and Mega Con and I think two more took place and Munich Con was rather small, so the guest were not Hollywood stars, but there were some amazing people from great shows and movies (like Doctor Who). It went for two days only, but that was enough, I think. We had time to enjoy the artwork and merchandise and the panels as well. There were some fantastic cosplayers and I think the hosts were great too – in Dortmund things got awkward sometimes, but the ones in Munich were well informed, charming and put everyone at ease asking interesting questions when the audience did not come up with any.
However the best part was Sylvester McCoy for sure, he was so fun and interacted with the audience – before the con I hadn’t watched any of the old Doctor Who episodes, but immediately afterwards I decided to order the first Volume of his episodes.
I’m so happy this con was a success and am excited for the next one here in Munich.

oops, I did it again | Bride of Frankenstein Hair

Bride of Frankenstein Hair
Okay, yes I admit it, I said blonde would stay for a longer time and at least it did not change for something “crazy” like yellow, orange or the colour of a sunrise. But I could not keep my fingers off hair dye – I was even considering black, to be honest. But I was a bit too scared. However it is likely I’ll dye the mop black in a few weeks or months. At this moment I feel like keeping this exact do – the 20s bob anyway, because it’s my favourite cut ever.

Bride of Frankenstein Hair
Bride of Frankenstein Hair

Well, anyway back to the topic of colour. I wanted some Bride of Frankenstein Vibes (not only because Frankenstein is my favourite book), so I went for a dark brown with a strand of hair that I kept blonde (I have to get the roots touched up on the blond hair…). I know technicaly she has one strand on each side of her head, but I didn’t want that (also her hairdo is quite different). Therefore this is what I wanted and how it turned out. As you see it turned out a bit too light for me at first – I really liked the colour but it wasn’t what I wanted – so I had one week with a green-ish teddy brown and then went full on dark.

Bride of Frankenstein Hair
Bride of Frankenstein Hair

I am afraid I might hate myself in a couple of months for going dark again, but at the moment and for the last couple of months I did not feel at all like colourful hair. I have to mention, though, that I have been looking at pictures of my dark brown hair (which I had about two years ago) for months and I adored it – and I do now, so I am excited to see how I style it. I did actually wear a few easy hairdos in the last few days and think the white strand adds a lot. I also feel like wearing more gothic stuff (not neccessarily goth, but some 19th century gothic vibes), black really grew to me.

What is you hair colour at the moment? And what colour do you want next?

It is indeed May the Fourth again.
On of my favourite things about Star Wars are the droids. And how could they not? They are literally non-human companions/best friends. There is not much I’d be more happy about if scientist would develope than droids like in Star Wars. The thing is they have such unique personalities that get along without proper words (unless you consider Beep Boop Beep Boop words). Personally I consider BB-8 too be very cheeky, coy and sarcastic, after all BB and R2 are practically best buddies – well Threepio and Artoo are forever best friends, we all know that, but I still think BB-8 and R2-D2 have a special connection as well.

The difficult thing for me is posing for a BB-8 cosplay after all I am not a droid, so my posing is a more human – even though I am no stranger to awkward robotic movements, they don’t qualify as droid movements. Also, did you know BB-8 was suposedly a girl in early drafts (as far as you can put a gender on droids)? I kind of think that fits quite well and for me, BB-8 is a she – however I considered Boba Fett to be female as well for quite some time and doesn’t that make sense? Also, there are a lot of amazing fem!Boba Fett Cosplays, so they add to that idea.

Anyway, I could never pick a favourite droid, they all have their qualities and I’d just like having my own companion strolling along beside me. We would be very good at stamping on Darth Vader or returning to Jakku (Why does everyone want to go back to Jakku?! you knowww). Though I really have to say I prefer the stamping on Vader part, because I never was a big fan of Anakin (except the scenes when Anakin is a kid). Sure, he has my sympathies, but then again I like almost every Star Wars character, because all of them are so elaborate and even though it’s a system of good/evil, most are much rather somewhere on a scale of grey.

Handmade Update – February 2017

February is over and I’d say I have been semi-productive, I made two more things of my 2017 sewing plans list. But other than that I did not make a lot of stuff, I have some plans for March, but I think it will be similar, because I have a lot of things to do and prepare for April.

Leia Dress
Leia Dress
15th of February
For Comic Con in Munich this year I want to be Leia Organa and so I needed to make a dress, the cut is pretty easy and you have almost nothing to sew, so that was fun. I knew which fabric was used for the original, however that fabric is not really available anymore so I went for this beautiful soft fabric. It’s slightly shiny, but not in a cheap way. However, you cannot imagine how many references I had for this dress to see where seams were.

Shift Insect Dress Mami
Insects Dress (Mum)
15th, 16th of February
For my mum I made this insect dress that is inspired by 60s shift dresses and I think the print is incredibly pretty.

Alice Theatrical Dress
Alice Theatrical Dress
Alice Theatrical Dress
8-11th, 13th, 14th, 17th, 18th of February
Instead of the Cheshire Cosplay I made another Alice Cosplay, one that is more theatrical. I really like the different fabrics and I think the little heart is a cute detail. I also decided to add a few charms to represent Wonderland.

Red Crop Top
Red Polka Dot Crop Top
22nd of February
That one was just a test, to be honest, it’s based on this tutorial and I am not sure whether or not I will wear it in summer, because I cut to close to the middle on the top side…

Leia Watercolour
Leia Watercolour
22nd of February
I really, really want to get back into drawing and painting so I tried to paint a watercolour postcard of Leia. It’s not like the best I’ve ever done, but I am okay with it, I just do not like the eyes. But I hope to improve again next month.

Those things I’m currently working on:

Leia Acrylic
Leia Acrylic
22nd of February
Then I tried using acrylic paint again – it is basically the same painting like the one above, but I really love acrylics and I had to take a picture of the painting with just the galaxy (without stars though), because I like the slightly raw look a lot.

Alice Dress (Anne)
20th, 25th, 28th of February
For Anne in London I made another Alice dress, this one however heavily inspired by the Disneyland one. Since it isn’t finished yet, I do not have a photo yet.

What did you create this week and do you have any tips on getting back into painting?

2017 Sewing Projects – 4/12

my favourite outfits of 2016

As the first post of 2017, we start with a recap sort of thing – a recap of fashion, one of my favourite things in the world. These are all Instagram posts that do not include official outfit post – what does that mean? These are pics taking in my room including selfies and just outfits I feel like deserve recognition – and to be worn again! I did something like that last year, too, and once this post is finished, I’ll revisit the old one.

This one is very pink, like a lot of pink – I especiallylove the tights and the magic wand I found. But, I have to mention those brooches as well, an Instagram friend gave them to me and as I love Hairspray, I love these brooches. And, the makeup, I remember which eyeshadow I did use and will wear that again very soon.

Melanie Martinez – how I love thee. This one was not worn outside, but I still love it a lot, from the top to the tights and while I had to throw them away, I really need similar ones soon again.

Those thights again, I love them jut so much and I think they go very well with the petticoat and the lettuce flower crown.

This one is not necessarily a favourite outifit, but more the thought of going out of my comfort zone as well as the denim jacket – that looks even better now.

First selfie right here, love the makeup and the flower crown. I think it has some cute details, too.

I think this is the first post including my cat, so I had to include it here. Also, the dress is one of my all time favourites.

The thing about this one tís the hair turban – I really don’t wear that often enough!

This includes one of my petticoat when it was still VERY fluffy and I like it a lot, it’s a pretty outfit, too, with red – which is one of my favourite colours.

This brooch and this skirt are perfect together, so I had to include an outfit where I wear these things together. Also, shoutout to little moose, their brooches are amazing!

Little moose again, what a coincidence. That was my outfit to Alice II, which has some emotional meaning, but also for all the little Alice bits.

Selfie Time again! That’s one of my favourite selfies – it’s fun and cute and different, especially with it being my first selfie with the white short bob hair which grew to me soo much.

I love this dress a lot, and I think it’s beyond perfect with the shoes and the white hair – some things just belong together.

That’s my prom outfit. I did not get photos of it yet, so I have to wait and see until one day I will, but it opened up my love for the twenties (actually Miss Fisher did that) and actually wearing 20s stuff – I really need some cute twenties skirts and dresses!

That one is actually my most like pic on Instagram – I like it, too, no doubt, it’s Alice and the effect is kinda cool. That was a big part of my summer, so I had to include it – yes, I know, I still have to blog about my expierence working as Alice.

Did I include this one only for Moriarty’s cute look? Yes.

Once again, a new hair colour, and I also really love that sjirt I got at Star Wars Identities.

Space Buns! I mean, sure I love the dress, but I am obsessed with space buns. I think that are a lot of fun, especially with half-half hair. Even though I cannot wear my hair in space buns very often, I love space buns a lot.

This blouson is so fancy and somewhat Asian, it’s just so lovely Also, I like wearing that top and it works so well with a lot of my things – of course, mainly in summer.

The yellow dress is one I wear a lot, it’s simple and can be worn with basicall everything and besides the outfit post, I think it’s great with red.

This one was my profile picture on Instagram for quite some time and I wear tht shirt a lot when I relax at home and as a whole it’s slightly like Snow White – also curls for the first time in what felt like ages.

I found this flannel my mum got in Philadelphia once and I love it. (The #selfie is from Monday, I'm sick at the moment and look … not so good 😅). Also I really hope that election wakes up and unites all the #nastywomen and every one who values equal rights for all humans. It saddens me a lot that populism and hate speech still have the same power as eighty years ago. Hopefully we can learn from the past and fight for and defend everyone's equal rights – not only in the USA, but also everywhere else (right wing politicians here in Europe are having a blast…). Love and be kind to each other. ❤ #ootdsocialclub #ootd #whatiwore #pinupgirl #noveltyprint #autumn #fall #autumnfashion #winter #winterfashion #pinkhair #disney #fairy #pixie #princess #glitter #mickeymouse #peachhair #cottoncandyhair #20sbob #doyoulikemyvintagebob #50s

ANOTHER SELFIE? Yes, with the new hair colour (well, I had t in the pic above, but you can see it a lot better here). Also, I like the both makeup and the cute little shirt I stole from my mom.

Another year has gone by without me shooting this outfit properly, so I had to include it once and since I think that pic is pretty cute, I took this one.

That’s not … me. That’s my cat, cutest thing ever.

My Ellie Sattler Cosplay means a lot to me for various reasons and I want to take really good pics of it one day, probably with a wig. And since the tote bag was made by me, I wanted to include that one as well.

I only include that for fabulous straight after hairdresser hair. ♥

Now, be prepared for a couple of Star Wars Outfits, this BB-8 one still needs proper Outfit Pics, but I like that quick photo with the Funko.

This one is kind of a hipster rather than a pinup outfit, but I really love everything about it. I’ve been thinking of getting the shirt forever. While I do not want to support fast fashion, every once in a while I get an H&M piece after thinking about it forever and usually I will keep it for years. So while I’m not 100% happy with that solution I’m at least half way okay with it.

This dress might be my favourite I made that year, who knows? Anyway, both cut and print are very much to my liking.

Jurassic Park, that’s all.

For me, everything is right with that picture, the light in the background are on (I always forget to put them on!) and I’m low-key obsessed with the dress, it has the most perfect fabric, satin and velvet, you can imagine.

Tights again – let’s start and end with fancy tights. I would not have worn mustard yellow tights last year, but with a few people on Insta rocking the colour I wanted to try that and I enjoy the way it looks.

What outfits of mine – or yours – did you like a lot this year?

Handmade Update – December

This month I prepared some things for etsy and had a bit of a Star Wars obsessive sewing marathon.

Cinema Cats Altering
Altering Cinema Cats
1st, 5th of December
I love love love this fabric and the dress, too, but with the collar it was way too tight – I think that has to do with being slightly claustrophobic in certain situations and so on. So, I removed the collar, made it wider and added a black velvet bow.

Kitchen Aid Cover

1st, 6th, 7th of December
For a colleague of my mum I made a cover for the kitchenaid she owns. And I really love the fabric.

BB-8 Dress
BB-8 Dress
8th, 9th of December
After going to comic con I really wanted a BB-8 Cosplay dress, so I made myself one. The applications aren’t perfect, but they are my first ones after all. At first I used the skirt below, but I changed it again to my original plan.

BB-8 Skirt (etsy)

So, this skirt will be sold on etsy, I really love the fabrics, it’s low-key BB-8 inspired, but can be worn in spring without a reference as well.

Cherry Skirt (etsy)

9th, 10th of December
Since I had some Cherry fabric left, so I made a skirt for etsy.

Black Mini Skirt

14th of December
When I wanted to wear the Star Wars jumper, I needed a skirt – I wanted a black (or grey) one, but I don’t own one – and I also wanted a short one, I don’t own that either. So I made one, in the morning, right before wearing it.

Then, since I had some fabric left, I made another one for etsy. I really love the fabric and I hope it’ll make someone really happy.

Millenium Falcon Bow Saskia

26th, 27th of December
When I prepared the Dress for Saskia, I also decided to make a matching bow and so I did, I inserted some sort of fleece, so it is naturally stiff.

And that is the dress. I hope it will fit well. It’s a different pattern from the one I made for myself last month, more Lolita and with a cream coloured lining.

What did you make this month? Or this year? And are you selling things on etsy? What would you like to see from me?

Mia Wallace

Mia Wallace

Mia Wallace

Mia Wallace

Last year in autumn or winter I started watching Tarantino movies, I think the only one (you know, of the official eight ones) I have not seen yet is Reservoir Dogs. I think Kill Bill is my favourite one, but Pulp Fiction is pretty darn close. Uma Thurman is one of my favourite actresses, no matter what character she plays, she’s just really versatile. And I love her work with Tarantino. Even though I have a slight preference for her character in Kill Bill, I love her look in Pulp Fiction.

I never snorted coke so I can’t say whether or not that impersonation is accurate. Nevertheless I think the pics look kind of cool, especially with the 50s diner background we found at Comic Con. You know I went to Comic Con Dortmund on the first weekend of December and I really enjoyed it, so I wanted to share a few pictures. I did not include most of the pictures taken of other people for copyright/privacy reasons. Amy is actually speedmaeuschen and the DeLorean is from Team Timemachine. As you might be able to imagine my excitement was enormous, I was smiling from seeing the DeLorean until I got out. And it wasn’t a pretty smile, but more of a crazy one. I already mentioned my slight obsession with BTTF once or twice, so it was great to actually sit in the car. And the Star Wars guys, that was great, too. They are from the 501st German Garrison and I think the picture looks amazing. Standing besides Kylo Ren I was fangirling on the inside, if you want to see more Star Wars pics, go here.

I was happy with my cosplays (Mia Wallace on Friday and Ellie Sattler on Saturday), but I got so inspired by all those amazing cosplayers at the con. Of course, I did not know every single one – video games inspired ones for example, but it was inspiring all the same. By now I already prepared my BB8 cosplay for Munich Comic Con in May (or April? It’s unorganised as hell), I just want a cute orange wig to go with it, though my silver/white hair could actually work as well. But some of them are so crazily detailed and with all those accessories and additional turns. Sure, steampunk makes everything look amazing, but pinup versions of DC/Batman villians are fantastic as well. I also saw the DC Bombshells, sooo beautiful. Sure, the panels were great, too, but for me those inspiring people really were the best. Also, I have a few more Mia Wallace pics and I might post them seperately.

Handmade Update – November

This month I worked on my cosplays for Dortmund Comic Con and then I found amazing Star Wars fabric in Neu-Ulm!

Scarf
Scarf for Mum
4th of November
Last month I made a skirt of this fabric and this one I also made a matching scarf for her to wear with the skirt.

Jurassic Park Tote
Dinosaur Tote
6th, 9th of November
For Comic Con one of my outfits – the one below – is Ellie Sattler, and since I needed a bag for the outfit, I wanted to make a tote saying “dinosaurs eat man, woman inherits the earth” to carry all my important things.

Jurassic Park Outfit
Ellie Shorts
4th of November
and
Ellie Blouse
5th, 6th, 11th of November
And this is the Ellie outfit, I shortened the pair of trousers and made the blouse. It’s my first real blouse, but I think it’s okay, the sleeves could haven been attached a bit better as well as the collar, but that’s that.

Mia Wallace Outfit
Mia Trousers
20th of November
For Mia Wallace I only needed a pair of trousers, but I did not find one to my liking AND fitting, so I made one and this is the first successful pair of trousers. I already made a pair of short and leggins, but this trousers were unsuccessful. Always. And I’m really happy with this pair, it’s high waisted and the fabric is amazing.

Star Wars Skirt
Star Wars Skirt
20th of November
I was looking for Star Wars fabric for weeks, months even. But the ones I found were always stretchy, I did not take them, but the ones I found with my grandma are amazing. So back home I just had to make the skirt instantly, so I can wear it at Comic Con. But maybe I will just wear it every single day for the rest of my life. Who knows?

Star Wars Bows
Star Wars Bows
22nd of November
To wear with the skirt and to sell on etsy in January or February, I made some bows of the leftover fabric and I hope to prepare some more things until I’m going to open the shop.

millenium falcon dress
Millenium Falcon Dress
22nd, 24th of November
OF COURSE I had to get this fabric when I saw it. I knew it had to become a dress, but I wasn’t sure about the style, so I made this with a bit of ruffle around the cheast and above the waist. It’s pretty comfy actually. ANd when it came to lining I went for a nice red cotton that I had laying around – it’s cute and I did not find a black or white cotton fabric at ten at night in my room (I do not have good lightning).

What did you make this month? And what Cosplays did you make?

Marlene and Mary

Marlene and Mary

Marlene and Mary

Marlene and Mary

Over the years my preferred decade changed a lot, sure the fifties and sixities will always have a great part of my heart, but at the moment I have a lot of love in my heart for the twenties. I wore a handmade twenties inspired gown for prom (still have to take some photos of that dress), but it’s rather difficult for me to make twenties dresses like I do fifties. Mainly for all the beautiful beads and sequins.

Marlene and Mary

Marlene and Mary

Marlene and Mary

Marlene and Mary

Sure, if I find beautiful lace, that’s a whole different thing, though often pretty expensive. On the other hand you don’t need as much fabric as for a swing dress and the pattern is really easy to create. I guess that’s also why the fabrics are so lavish. Well, I don’t find those where I shop and I’m a little too lazy – but maybe one day…

Marlene and Mary

Marlene and Mary

Marlene and Mary

So, instead of a fantastic glitter fabric or a fringe dress, I went for a Marlene Dietrich inspired look – or something a 1920s Mary Poppis might wear. In case you wonder, the beautiful brooch says Practically perfect in every way. Anyway, I totally feel inspired by Marlene this autumn. She’s a really interesting person and her taste in clothing is amazing. I mean, for me she’s the woman to wear trousers and I really love the suspenders. She had just that great confidence with whatever she wore (and she did actually look amazing). So I hope, when my bestie and I went to Nymphenburg about a month ago, I did her justice. At least I felt pretty good about that Marlene inspired look with a little Mary Poppins twist.
