Handmade Update June 2017

This month was me catching up on all the sewing I missed over the last two months. So, there was some time when I created a lot of stuff out of fabric I got at my grandparents, so here we go.

Wednesday Watercolour Painting
Wednesday Postcard
5th of June
Well, first I decided to paint Wednesday of watercolours and to be honest I really like the red background – that idea worked out well.

Star Wars Skirt
etsy Star Wars Skirt
9th, 10th of June
For my etsy store I made a Star Wars Skirt and there is still some fabric left, so you might want to head over there.

Lace Border Dress
Dress with Lace Border
10th of June
This project is based on a ModCloth dress, I adored for quite some time. It’s actually apricot, but I wanted something a bit witchy and that dark lavender tone is more than perfect. Also I love the lace details and I think it matches the tone very well. It’s pretty long compared to my 50s style wardrobe, so I am pretty excited to wear it for the first time.

Bat Sleeve Dress
Bat Wing 60s Dress
11th of June
Inspired my among other things this I wanted a bat wing dress – I wanted something sixties, somwthing that would actually require a beehive and Twiggy Makeup. There is a little issue with the lining showing on the right side, but I will figure this out.

Carot Crop Top
Carot Crop/Bra Top
11th of June
You know I got a couple of fabrics in Augsburg and now I decided to make some crop tops. This fabric is so adorable and I saw this pattern online, so I created my own based on the photograph on the front.

Governess Dress
Chiffon Edwardian/Victorian inspired Dress
12th of June
Recently I fell in love with Edwardian and Victorian dresses and really like those gothic vibes (gothic as in 19th century horror stories and the aesthetic, not pop culture goth). I think it looks a bit like somthing a governess would wear. It is inspired by this, however longer and without the collar (because I did not enjoy the way the collar looked and think this looks a bit older that way).

Wine Two Piece
Wine Red Two Piece (Cape/Skirt)
13th of June
Another one inspired by etsy is this two pice – I immediately fell in love with the idea of wearing a skirt as a cape when it gets colder. As with the first dress I wanted something darker, so I went for the wine tone. (Also it makes me feel a bit like Jayne Mansfield.)

Kitsch Kitten Crop Top
Kitty Kitsch Crop Top
14th of June
This is probably my favourite crop top I made this month – the print is so kitchy and I think the sweetheart neckline is perfect for the print. It’s also great because I don’t have to wear a bra with it.

Sheep Crop Top
Sheep Crop/Bra Top
14th of June
I’m so glad I decided to made tops now, because with not really shopping for clothing anymore and also not having too many tops this is an easy way to stock my closet. I definitively have to work on my blouse making, so that is another project for the rest of 2017.

20s Day Dress Slip Dress
20s Slip Dress
15th of June
With my current love for the 19th century to the 20s also made me create this dress (it’s based on a white slip dress I saw browsing on etsy, but I lost the link) – I wanted a soft, light (in weight and colour) cotton and this one has the perfect feel to it and I just love a beautiful insect print. I think it’s perfect for a 20s day dress

Sailor Skirt Red Mum
Mum’s Red Sailor Skirt
28th, 29th of June
My mum recently bought fabric for table runners, pillows and placemats and since she really liked it she asked me for a riviera style skirt which could be tied, so I made one. I really like the style and consider making more skirts with ribbons to tie.

Thyra Dresses
I also gave to of my old dresses to my friend Thyra and she looks adorable in them.

So this is what I made this month. What have you made this week?

Day Trip: Kochel am See

Kochel am See Kochelsee wanderlust
Wednesday I took the train to Kochel and decided to walk around for a while. The village itself is quite cute, but I actually wanted to run through fields and woods. Well, I did not want to actually hike, because the weather wasn’t perfect, just get out and walk around like I did on Holmenkollen. However as it turned out the way towards the Franz Marc Museum was beautiful and I walked there (in the woods, mainly), but the way alond the lake was also along a street… So after enjoying the artwork in the museum when I decided to just walk a bit longer, it really wasn’t perfect. Nevertheless, it was lovely, even though it would have been better without the street… But I met four cat, so my day way complete and I actually saw a lot of beautiful flowers and places.

a souvenir from Amsterdam | Tulip & Cat Tattoo

Cat Tulip Amsterdam Tattoo

I showed you what I bought in Amsterdam and Scandinavia already, however, I got a souvenir that is a little more durable, I’d say. Some colour on my skin. I knew I wanted/considered a tattoo from my journey, but I wasn’t sure about it. even though I had found a great shop in Amsterdam. Eventually, however, I wrote the artists and we agreed on a loose date. The shop is Queen of Arts Tattooing in Amsterdam (a fantastic, clean shop) and the Artist Sera.

The design was somewhat spontaneous. Sera posts flash designs on her Instagram and I liked quite a few of them. But, when I was there one the very day, she told me she could also design something there and then. So I told her I’d like a cat and a tulip (for the Netherlands, because I’m creative like that). The cat was inspired by my cat, but reminds me a lot of one of the Aristocats and Dinah (Alice’s cat) which is just perfect. I think it’s so adorable and will always remind me of the lovely time I had.

Cat Tulip Amsterdam Tattoo

The pain was okay, certain parts were a bit uncomfortable and some times I felt as if I had got pins and needles in my hand (which is not unusal, but probably even more intense due to my low blood pressure). It healed very well, considering I was travelling during the process and I think it’s adorable how the cat peaks out of my shirts.

Cinema Cats

Movie Theatres. Probably one of the best inventions of mankind. To me it is still astonishing that someone came up with this technique – but then again I find science and technology in general so fascinating. However I actually wanted to write a bit about movies and cinema visits today. Within two last year are made it a habbit to go to the cinema more often, sure I do not manage to watch every movie I’m interested in, but I would say about 70-80 percent. Before that I only went to the movies about three times a year for whatever unexplainable reason. After all, one of my favourite movie scenes is the one with Danny in the drive in singing his depressing song (Grease) – unfortunately I never went to a drive in. Well, yet, that is on my bucket list.

I’m really glad I manage to go watch movies I want to see on the big screen quite often nowadays – and in OV, because living in a big city there are a few OV movie theatres nearby. And most recently I was not disappointed with most movies I watched – that said, I do not really watch blockbusters, but rather biopics and horror movies – at least in cinema. And Star Wars, obviously. I can’t even begin to imagine how amazing it must have been to watch the original trilogy in cinema. I love how movies, waiting for the release and then waiting in line to finally watch it connects people, to be honest, that makes me somewhat emotional.

Movies are not only an escape but also a way to connect to people, especially with amazing series like Star Wars, Back to the Future or Jurassic Park (just to name some favourites with a big fanbase). In 2015 I convinced my friends to attend the BttF event and it was probably one if the best things I ever did (not only because they are still thankful, but because it was glorious) and I wish there were more events like that. After all this year is the 40 year anniversary of A New Hope (well, in Germany it would be February 2018) – and even if they to not show it at the cinema I guess it’s very obvious what I will do that day.

Of course, the atmosphere of a screening in cinema is always just a bit better with all the popcorn (and nachos for some), the comfy chairs and the darkness. Just writing this makes me excited for the next time I watch a movie (while writing this in March I have not seen Beauty and the Beast yet, but will soon, even though my anticipation is not that high – much more excitement for the live-action version of Mulan here). And I know a lot of people dislike cinemas for all the other people (th chewers and whisperers), but somehow I barely come across annoying people at movie theatres luckily. But then again I often manage to be in cinema with close to no other people – well except for Star Wars and Hidden Figures The latter was in a very small cinema, maybe room 40 people, opening night, OV and I am so glad that fantastic movie got the attention it deserved. I still need to read the book, though. What are your favourite cinema movies? And what would you like to change (bringing cats to the cinema e.g.)?

my favourite outfits of 2016

As the first post of 2017, we start with a recap sort of thing – a recap of fashion, one of my favourite things in the world. These are all Instagram posts that do not include official outfit post – what does that mean? These are pics taking in my room including selfies and just outfits I feel like deserve recognition – and to be worn again! I did something like that last year, too, and once this post is finished, I’ll revisit the old one.

This one is very pink, like a lot of pink – I especiallylove the tights and the magic wand I found. But, I have to mention those brooches as well, an Instagram friend gave them to me and as I love Hairspray, I love these brooches. And, the makeup, I remember which eyeshadow I did use and will wear that again very soon.

Melanie Martinez – how I love thee. This one was not worn outside, but I still love it a lot, from the top to the tights and while I had to throw them away, I really need similar ones soon again.

Those thights again, I love them jut so much and I think they go very well with the petticoat and the lettuce flower crown.

This one is not necessarily a favourite outifit, but more the thought of going out of my comfort zone as well as the denim jacket – that looks even better now.

First selfie right here, love the makeup and the flower crown. I think it has some cute details, too.

I think this is the first post including my cat, so I had to include it here. Also, the dress is one of my all time favourites.

The thing about this one tís the hair turban – I really don’t wear that often enough!

This includes one of my petticoat when it was still VERY fluffy and I like it a lot, it’s a pretty outfit, too, with red – which is one of my favourite colours.

This brooch and this skirt are perfect together, so I had to include an outfit where I wear these things together. Also, shoutout to little moose, their brooches are amazing!

Little moose again, what a coincidence. That was my outfit to Alice II, which has some emotional meaning, but also for all the little Alice bits.

Selfie Time again! That’s one of my favourite selfies – it’s fun and cute and different, especially with it being my first selfie with the white short bob hair which grew to me soo much.

I love this dress a lot, and I think it’s beyond perfect with the shoes and the white hair – some things just belong together.

That’s my prom outfit. I did not get photos of it yet, so I have to wait and see until one day I will, but it opened up my love for the twenties (actually Miss Fisher did that) and actually wearing 20s stuff – I really need some cute twenties skirts and dresses!

That one is actually my most like pic on Instagram – I like it, too, no doubt, it’s Alice and the effect is kinda cool. That was a big part of my summer, so I had to include it – yes, I know, I still have to blog about my expierence working as Alice.

Did I include this one only for Moriarty’s cute look? Yes.

Once again, a new hair colour, and I also really love that sjirt I got at Star Wars Identities.

Space Buns! I mean, sure I love the dress, but I am obsessed with space buns. I think that are a lot of fun, especially with half-half hair. Even though I cannot wear my hair in space buns very often, I love space buns a lot.

This blouson is so fancy and somewhat Asian, it’s just so lovely Also, I like wearing that top and it works so well with a lot of my things – of course, mainly in summer.

The yellow dress is one I wear a lot, it’s simple and can be worn with basicall everything and besides the outfit post, I think it’s great with red.

This one was my profile picture on Instagram for quite some time and I wear tht shirt a lot when I relax at home and as a whole it’s slightly like Snow White – also curls for the first time in what felt like ages.

I found this flannel my mum got in Philadelphia once and I love it. (The #selfie is from Monday, I'm sick at the moment and look … not so good 😅). Also I really hope that election wakes up and unites all the #nastywomen and every one who values equal rights for all humans. It saddens me a lot that populism and hate speech still have the same power as eighty years ago. Hopefully we can learn from the past and fight for and defend everyone's equal rights – not only in the USA, but also everywhere else (right wing politicians here in Europe are having a blast…). Love and be kind to each other. ❤ #ootdsocialclub #ootd #whatiwore #pinupgirl #noveltyprint #autumn #fall #autumnfashion #winter #winterfashion #pinkhair #disney #fairy #pixie #princess #glitter #mickeymouse #peachhair #cottoncandyhair #20sbob #doyoulikemyvintagebob #50s

ANOTHER SELFIE? Yes, with the new hair colour (well, I had t in the pic above, but you can see it a lot better here). Also, I like the both makeup and the cute little shirt I stole from my mom.

Another year has gone by without me shooting this outfit properly, so I had to include it once and since I think that pic is pretty cute, I took this one.

That’s not … me. That’s my cat, cutest thing ever.

My Ellie Sattler Cosplay means a lot to me for various reasons and I want to take really good pics of it one day, probably with a wig. And since the tote bag was made by me, I wanted to include that one as well.

I only include that for fabulous straight after hairdresser hair. ♥

Now, be prepared for a couple of Star Wars Outfits, this BB-8 one still needs proper Outfit Pics, but I like that quick photo with the Funko.

This one is kind of a hipster rather than a pinup outfit, but I really love everything about it. I’ve been thinking of getting the shirt forever. While I do not want to support fast fashion, every once in a while I get an H&M piece after thinking about it forever and usually I will keep it for years. So while I’m not 100% happy with that solution I’m at least half way okay with it.

This dress might be my favourite I made that year, who knows? Anyway, both cut and print are very much to my liking.

Jurassic Park, that’s all.

For me, everything is right with that picture, the light in the background are on (I always forget to put them on!) and I’m low-key obsessed with the dress, it has the most perfect fabric, satin and velvet, you can imagine.

Tights again – let’s start and end with fancy tights. I would not have worn mustard yellow tights last year, but with a few people on Insta rocking the colour I wanted to try that and I enjoy the way it looks.

What outfits of mine – or yours – did you like a lot this year?

Handmade Update – December

This month I prepared some things for etsy and had a bit of a Star Wars obsessive sewing marathon.

Cinema Cats Altering

1st, 5th of December
I love love love this fabric and the dress, too, but with the collar it was way too tight – I think that has to do with being slightly claustrophobic in certain situations and so on. So, I removed the collar, made it wider and added a black velvet bow.

Kitchen Aid Cover

1st, 6th, 7th of December
For a colleague of my mum I made a cover for the kitchenaid she owns. And I really love the fabric.

BB-8 Dress
BB-8 Dress
8th, 9th of December
After going to comic con I really wanted a BB-8 Cosplay dress, so I made myself one. The applications aren’t perfect, but they are my first ones after all. At first I used the skirt below, but I changed it again to my original plan.

BB-8 Skirt (etsy)

So, this skirt will be sold on etsy, I really love the fabrics, it’s low-key BB-8 inspired, but can be worn in spring without a reference as well.

Cherry Skirt (etsy)

9th, 10th of December
Since I had some Cherry fabric left, so I made a skirt for etsy.

Black Mini Skirt

14th of December
When I wanted to wear the Star Wars jumper, I needed a skirt – I wanted a black (or grey) one, but I don’t own one – and I also wanted a short one, I don’t own that either. So I made one, in the morning, right before wearing it.

Then, since I had some fabric left, I made another one for etsy. I really love the fabric and I hope it’ll make someone really happy.

Millenium Falcon Bow Saskia

When I prepared the Dress for Saskia, I also decided to make a matching bow and so I did, I inserted some sort of fleece, so it is naturally stiff.

And that is the dress. I hope it will fit well. It’s a different pattern from the one I made for myself last month, more Lolita and with a cream coloured lining.

What did you make this month? Or this year? And are you selling things on etsy? What would you like to see from me?

Meet the Cat | Moriarty

Moriarty Cat Birma Persian
I promised it for quite some time and now finally, here we are. A few pictures of my little furball. When we picked him up at the shelter, he was a whole lot darker, but mainly because they had to shave him and now all that white fur is growing back so that he can look beautiful and royal – he is a Birma-Persian Mix after all. He was cuddly right on the day we met him, deciding to sit on my lap, loving to have his fur ruffeled and all that. Now with time he’s also okay with me picking him up – usually he doesn’t try to skin me anymore. He’s also kind of a bad cat – jumping up on the counter and eating things you prepared while you had to get something from another room. But honestly who could be mad at this fluff ball?

Cats are my favourite animals, you know that, of course I also really love deer and (bumble) bees, ravens and moths. But deep inside it’s cats. It has always been. Moriarty (who will get a post soooon) is my second real cat and he is – even though a little bit of a filthy bugger – a cutie. And I am so happy he does live with us.

Since I was a kid I wanted to have cat, I did not get one though, only a alectronic plushie that would meow when petted. It was a cute toy nevertheless and just last week we put in some batteries again and let Moriarty play with her. Which was pretty cute. Beforewe had a cat again, I knew about cat cafés, but I thought they were only limited to Japan.

They are not! Turns out, there are cat cafés in other countries as well. And there is one in Munich! You can imagine my happiness as my friend told me about the café – it’s so wonderful, not only if you don’t have cats. It’s a vegan café, so that’s a big plus as well. But, most importantly, there are various cats, running around, cuddeling and just being cute. That was really wonderful and if you have the chance to go to one, you should take it. It’s very relaxing. The photos were taken by my dear friend Charlotte, who told me about the café – but most of them were taken near my favourite museum – the Neue Pinakothek on the 27th of October, when autumn was really beautiful and golden.

Recently I got back into playing Animal Crossing New Leaf again – when I had this hairstyle, so about, 3rd and 21st of September. But now, about two months later with the update I’m back at it again. You know, I grew up playing this game. I was a bit too young for the original game, but Wild World version was basically the centre of my life for a few summers. Somehow, it was always summer when I got back into playing. I think it started in third or fourth grade, but I don’t quite know.

Animal Crossing Girl

Animal Crossing Girl

Animal Crossing Girl

My best friend and I loved playing together and we spend holidays at my grandparent’s house playing ACWW, visiting each other and making our towns beautiful. We were a bit obsessed to be honest. But it was fun, even now looking back Animal Crossing will always remind me of that time. I want to write innocent time like they do in old novels, but that’s a bit cheesy, isn’t it? Also, it does not really sound like something I’d say in a real conversation. Anyway, Animal Crossing for my is childhood memories and a lot of happy hours (not that I’m unhappy now). I think the creators truely managed to get that across with the game, all those cute little holidays and those loveable characters that live in your little town.

Animal Crossing Girl

Animal Crossing Girl

Animal Crossing Girl

Animal Crossing Girl

Animal Crossing Girl

As I said, I did not know the game before Wild World, but with the ones I know (ohh, playing with WiiSpeak and cloning Bells, those memories…) I really like New Leaf the best. The brought (back) a lot of great features like swimming – who did not dream of swimming in the previous games? And then the cute little camp site, which, I have to admit is double fun for me. Once, because I used to play ACWW while camping in Italy in summer and two because I was/am really lucky with my campers. Most of my beloved characters moved to me after visiting the campsite. Peanut, who is my all time favourite pink squirrel, for example, I don’t know why I’m so attached to that squirrel (probably because it’s pink and beyond adorable), but I am. And when she moved out of my Wild World town I was devastated, so once I owned the cheating device (yeah, I cheated in Animal Crossing… what does that say about me?) I made her live with me again (gosh, that sounded creepy). Anyway, I wasn’t really successful, because she turned into a male jock, cute pink squirrel was now a male jock – you know, I’m not the best at cheating.

Animal Crossing Girl

Animal Crossing Girl

Animal Crossing Girl

Animal Crossing Girl

Of course, in every game after that I was praying for her and in my New Leaf town I got lucky with the camp site. After her, I also got Beau (adorable little deer) and Marshal (cute white squirrel) through the camp site. So now, with the update and the new camp site I’m hoping for little Tangy – another one of my favs. And how could she not? She’s a lemon cat with a leaf on her head. In a way I could imagine most of those little cuties in Wonderland. You know, with their crazy-cute designs and little quirks. It took me a while to give The Sims a try, because I was so used to the adorableness of Animal Crossing and I still love that game, because to me it’s something special.

Animal Crossing Girl

Animal Crossing Girl

Animal Crossing Girl

Animal Crossing Girl

It’s not like it helped me overcome dark times or something like this, but it added and adds a little spark of joy. The music alone makes me smile, even after not playing for weeks or months – and even with all the weeds. To be honest I only got the 3DS (a used one that had some issues at first) for Animal Crossing, and I’m really not disappointed. With being mayor and the little island they added a lot to the game as with the tiny Happy Home Designer Crossover. That game is quite cute as well, but I think I want to write about this seperately. And of course, my favourite shop owner, Kicks is here with me. And I think that hair colour is really animal crossing as well, if we want to use that as an adjective. Now, looking back, I think ACWW was the first time for me to see with hair that wasn’t on the natural spectrum. Well, well.

Animal Crossing Girl

Oh, and in Meran people seemed to love that outfit, saying che bello and that stuff. Also, a little girl and her mum called me a pretty princess (which is one of the best compliments out there) and we talked about princesses and fairies and me wearing stardust under my eyes (which is a lovely way to describe the glitter thing). The girl also told me that she’d own a princess dress as well which she loves to wear. It always makes me so happy to talk to people about dressing up and especially kids with their curiosity – and it made both me and them really happy that day, so I will always connect that with the dress.
